Ways to make money online
Here are 5 Ways to make money online that actually work
We’ve all been there! I know I have. Where you click on a Pin from pinterest or you search how to make money online and you get Surveys!! Check out these Legit 5 ways to make money online.
I’m not knocking surveys all the way. I know you can get a few bucks here and there. I’ve made about $30 taking surveys this year. But, when you search online how to make money and are redirected to those millions of survey sites, you get really frustrated and eventually give up, right?
I know many people who were in that same boat and years ago I was as well. Let’s be honest, for the amount of time it takes for me to take an hour survey I could be making way more money elsewhere. I mean, who wants to waste an hour of their life and make $1? Not I, and I’m sure not you either.
For a whole year I was determined to find easy, but better ways to make actual money you could make a living off of online. I applied to a lot just to see how tedious the application process was. You actually wouldn’t believe how shady some sites are so be careful when looking for easy online jobs. That is why I am writing this 5 ways to make money online because I don’t want you to get scammed like I did read below.
I actually almost got scammed once when a company said I was hired, making $45/hour doing data entry. He wanted me to give him banking information, saying to “trust him”. PFFFTTTT I laughed at that one. It was sad though, because at first I was soooooo excited to land an at home job that paid $45/hour! And it was something that I was passionate about, numbers and not having to interact with people. Win/win right?
WRONG- I will say this only once. If it’s too good to be true, then it probably is. I know I’ve heard that before, but I was so sure this company was legit! I mean their website looked legit and someone from a great Facebook group was advertising for them….. This actually drove me to make this 5 Ways to make money online post. So, I guess it wasn’t a total loss right?
Ok so, now that you know what not to do and look for let us get into what you can do to make 5 ways to make money online.
- Chegg tutoring, I actually applied for this and got accepted. It is a bit time consuming but I liked that they just didn’t accept anyone who applied and there were some subjects that you had to pass tests for before you could tutor.
- VIPKID– I actually know quite a few people that teach through VIPKID. For this you have to have a bachelor’s degree but it doesn’t have to be in education, of course it’s a plus if you do have one.
- If teaching/tutoring isn’t your forte, how about Proofreading? I found that there are a lot of legit proofreading companies and they all vary from rookie/inexperienced making around $9-$12/hr to experienced making as much as $30/hr. I’ve even seen some companies pay up to $45/hr. Some also pay depending on work and not hours. It really varies. I applied to a few of these but only got accepted to one. All the ones that I applied for you have to take a test and it’s pretty tedious. I also liked that about these companies. For my top companies that I know pay well and are legit are Scribbr, Proofreading Pal, Proofreadingservices.com, and Scribendi.
- Transcription! Become a transcriptionist. I actually applied and got accepted and tried this, it wasn’t for me but it is a legit way to make money and some people find it very easy. I found out I do not have the best hearing and this was hard for me to do. I spent 2 hours trying to transcribe 5 mins worth of work… but If you have exceptional hearing and fast typing skills, here are a few companies you can take a look at. Rev.com is the most popular, Transcribeme.com, Scribie, and Lionbridge. There are many more but these are the ones that I know are legit and pay pretty well.
- Last but not least, AUX voice acting! I know, I know it sounds pretty intimidating but this was actually fun for me to do. Even though I didn’t get picked for the books I auditioned for I had fun doing this and will continue to do it. What I love about this company is it’s amazon based and it’s super easy to navigate. You know exactly what to do. You go look for a genre you’re interested in, click on that book and it will tell you what you need to record to apply for the position. Each book is different pay and some even have residential income, so every time the book sells, you get a certain percentage of the sells! Now you see why I had to include it into my 5 Ways to make money online post, just look how fun it is!

These are all great ways to make money online Felicia and I can tell you that I have done the online survey thing and it is very low pay, it takes a long time to do and there is the irritation that you can get booted out and not earn even if you have spent ages already on that survey.
However what I did was slightly different – I was not taking surveys to earn money as such – I did the surveys so that I could prove that you can actually make some money doing it… then I took a screenshot and reviewed the survey site honestly and did a Youtube video showing how to use the site and I wrote a few articles on making money through taking surveys. I included my affiliate link in all of that content… and I’ve made well over $1000 from that site. I earn a little bit almost every single day – ok its not big money but I created all that content in 2015 and I am still earning from it.
Just something to think about 🙂
Great tips! There are certainly tons of people out there that get scammed all the time. My kids do transcription work and make some great side money for themselves
woa that was a close call. Asking for banking information is so dodgy. I have never done surveys but heard a lot of people do to earn a quick buck. I am impressed by how many different things you have tried. I have always wanted to do tutoring but never got to get started on that. I didn’t know one could audition for a book voice. That sounds interesting. Thank you for providing these wonderful options.
That’s great! I love to hear that it’s working for you. Thanks for the note.
Aah! I have heard about so many fake online surveys and work from home scams. They all look so good but do not work and are just there to con people. I’d like to check out Proofreading and will check out the sites you have mentioned. AUX voice acting seems super fun. Thanks for an informative and insightful post, Felicia!
Hi Felicia. I also got fooled by taking surveys and they didn’t really help me. I remember taking one but that was more like a general meeting for feedback and they paid me like 50dollars. I noticed there are quite a couple of ways to make money online.
Oh my gosh! I’ve been there and the surveys I did do only offers vouchers to local grocery stores that I never received. I also applied for a job on a reputable freelancing website and got scammed because the job lister didn’t pay the deposit and I stupidly sent the work before payment was made. These are great suggestions and warnings for anyone wanting to make money online.
All of these sound like fun! I did not know Chegg hires tutors! Interesting! I edit, write and proofread for a living and I will certainly check out the sites you’ve mentioned, at least out of curiosity. The voice acting really sounds like fun! I once heard that there are companies looking for people to add English subtitles to regional language videos and films. That sounds exciting to me, as I know at least 8 languages. Fun post, Felicia! Just goes to show that when we start looking, we will always find something!
I used to sign up for all of those paid survey sites, but some surveys were so time-consuming, it wasn’t worth the little bit of money/ points I made. Thanks for this great list – I don’t think I would be a good tutor, but the proofreading one sounds pretty interesting. One of my coworkers does voice acting online and makes a pretty good living off of it – enough so he built his own home studio to record from!
Wow! That is awesome!! Yes it is fun to me as well I don’t think I would ever get to the point where I build my own studio lol but it is a fun hobby for me. That is amazing that he has turned it into a career.
