This is something we make a lot at home, with different lentils. The brown ones are creamier and we sometimes add ghee or cream to it too. Your lentil soup looks like a chef’s dream… So beautiful and delicious looking.
Thank you! Yes, we also add cream to this recipe sometimes to make a dish called dal makhani!
I have to admit I never tried this one before, biz since it’t very cold out here now I believe it’s the perfect time to try it out, don’t you think? Thank you Felicia and Fatima for this great recipe.
Daal is a childhood favourite for me. My husband loves Daal too so I like to make it atleast thrice a week. I use pressure cooker for quick cooking but i think slow cooking makes food taste even better. I love a good spice saute for all daal and lentil soups.
This looks fantastic Felicia – I love eating lentils but the truth is that I have never been really good at cooking them. I have a slow cooker but not in instant pot or pressure cooker. How would you advise I go about making this is in my slow cooker?
Hi Lynne!
So I have a few pins on my instant pot recipes board on pinterest on how to convert a slow cooker recipe into an instant pot recipe but I haven’t tried doing the opposite lol. Maybe Fatima could have some better insight for you but if you want to take a look at those you can click here https://www.pinterest.com/Mealplanningeasy/instapot-recipestips/
Hi Lynne, I personally haven’t attempted to make it in a slow-cooker, but I’m assuming it wouldn’t be too different. Here’s a link to an article you might find helpful! Definitely do report back and let us know how it went in a slow cooker!

Lentil soups are not only quick and easier to make but they are so healthy and nutritious too. And it can be made with variety of dals. Your recipe is simple and easy to follow. Thanks for sharing, Felicia.
I don’t normally cook with lentils, in fact I don’t think I’ve ever had any in my kitchen!
But this recipe sounds so good, I think I might just need to try it!
Hi Felicia. Ah why do you make me read about soup when it’s cold and raining outside! ? I love soup and lentil soup is very nice especially with pieces of meat in between. Adding this to my SOUO LIST?
I make dal every other day and it’s a favorite at home, besides being a great source of protein for us as vegetarians. We cook it in the pressure cooker. Dal is great as a side dish for rice or rotis. I especially love it with hot rice and ghee – a childhood comfort food with a side of vegetables. Thank you Fatima and Felicia!
We love dal too! It’s a staple dinner for us! Thank you so much for your kind comment on our recipe!
Instapot is such a blessing, it makes cooking so convenient and is a bog time saver too. I love lentil soup. I usually make it with split green gram or yellow moong dal. Your recipe is simple and easy to follow. Will try it one of these days. Thanks for sharing!
We love Instant Pot recipes too! Thank you so much for your kind comment on our recipe!
