If you’re like my family and I you probably eat some sort of rice or grain at least a couple of times a week…or in our case just about every day. My whole family loves rice. White rice, brown rice, fried rice, Rice pilaf.. You name it we love it.
This amazing fool proof recipe will have you saying bye-bye to mushy or under-cooked white rice.
BTW if you love Brown rice check out my post No Fail Instant Pot brown rice HERE.
The reason I love cooking White rice in my instant pot is that it takes half the time! Yes, you heard that right. Usually, my white rice takes about 30 minutes on the stovetop or even in my rice cooker but in the instant pot, it only takes 19 minutes! I don’t know about you but anything that helps me save time is a winner in my book.
Now, I wasn’t going to even do a whole post on white rice like I did with my brown rice recipe but I had a lot of people ask me to and I think White rice deserves its own post don’t you think? Actually, I think White rice is my favorite rice because it is so versatile and I keep the leftovers and make all sorts of things like fried rice or rice pudding or even horchata.
If you don’t know what Horchata is, it’s a Latin American drink usually made of milk, rice, and cinnamon but other variations like almonds and vanilla can be used as well. I usually make this for Christmas or sometimes I’m feeling frisky and put some Rum in it making it Rumchata!
Ok, anyway enough about my drinking problems lets’ get to the rice! So, I am a part of a few Facebook Instant Pot groups and one of the most common problems people have with their instant pots is cooking Rice! I know, something so easy, yet tedious was causing mayhem in the groups.
But, if you think about it, If you don’t know what you’re doing rice can be a bit tricky. I have learned through trial and error what the best measurements are.
I want you all to know that before I go any further, I measure my rice with my finger, so when I put the measurements for the water It’s the best guesstimate I can come up with. What I do is I place my rice in my instant pot (however much you want, I usually put 2 cups)
Wash it beforehand if you want as well. This is another debate about rice..to wash or not to wash? I rinse my rice a couple of times before putting it into my instant pot.
I then place my middle finger on the top of the rice and fill up the pot with water until it reaches the first horizontal line. I learned this from my awesome Filipino friend and once roommate Chris while stationed in Hawaii together. Also, if you watch comedies Jokoy on Netflix talks about this method as well…. I couldn’t stop laughing because it’s so true.
But for recipe sakes we will say use the 1:1 ratio, meaning for 1 cup of uncooked rice you will use 1 cup of water. Since we usually make 2 cups that’s what the recipe will be based off of. Please be sure to comment if you have tried my recipe. Thank you and have a Blessed Day!
Now, rice pretty much goes with anything in my opinion but If you need some inspiration or just want to try something new I have found this recipe over at theodehlicious.com that Saif has mastered. These are corn beef patties! Now, I’m not a fan of “real” corn beef but I love the stuff that comes in the can and this recipe uses that. You can check out his recipe here Corn beef hash patties recipe. Be sure to drop him a comment if you liked it as well. Thanks guys!

At first you say “Quick release-15 minutes” (Which makes no sense.). Then you say “Natural release-15 minutes.” (Which is probably what you intended.)
It could use a little proofreading so as not to confuse anyone.
Thank you for pointing that out Ken! I am human so yes I make mistakes as well. I have fixed my mistake and the recipe is now right. Thank you for taking the time to read my post.
It’s really well cooking, as in the cooker we are losing some vitamins via whistle.
Oh I love this! I’m a late bloomer to cooking rice, I know it sounds strange but I was never one for eating it much so I hardly ever cooked it. When I got married my husband moaned at me because he loves rice and now my kids are also rice lovers so I cook it at least a few times a week. What I would love to know and I am sure you do – is how well does this working cooking a big batch of rice? I really love to cook my rice once or twice a month then freeze it in portions. It just makes my life so much easier but then since I cook it in a pot on the stove it doesn’t always come out so great cooking so much. Any advice is helpful here please!
Delicious! I usually make my rice in a regular pot but this seems better. I don’t like it when rice is mushy not my favorite at all 😁 i am definitely going to try this
